Background
ASEAN NPSR first started as a joint workshop between Vietnam and Thailand in 2015. It has seen evolved to its current form to tackle several issues faced by the ASEAN countries in nuclear power safety research. It was formally established on March 2017 and holds annual meeting and activities to reach the objectives of the network.
Introduction
With the completion of the last benchmark problem in ASEAN NPSR and shifting needs in nuclear power safety research, it is critical that the network take this time to recalibrate the needs and interest of the participating countries. The annual meeting aims to bring the network together and discuss such evolving needs. The annual meeting aims to discuss key topics relevant to nuclear power safety research in the
region such as updates in progress in nuclear research, atmospheric dispersion, small modular reactor and public outreach.
Objectives
• To be the regional platform in the field of nuclear power safety research to promote the data and information sharing and cooperation among the Member States;
• To fulfill the needs and address the gaps of countries in the ASEAN region in R&D;
• To strengthen the capability in R&D of the Member States to be able to provide the technical support for decision making; and
• To establish and enhance the cooperation between the ASEAN network and the IAEA and other relevant international organizations.
Outcomes
• Research updates from the individual Member States;
• Research progress updates from the individual Sub-committees.
